Set within the picturesque village of Durgan on the Helford River, this charming farmhouse kitchen captures the essence of Cornish living — where heritage architecture meets contemporary design. Created for a client who wanted a space that felt warm, inviting, and social, this remodel demonstrates how thoughtful kitchen design in Helford River can transform a traditional property into the heart of modern family life.

From the outset, our brief was clear: to design a kitchen that respected the age and character of the home while introducing a fresh, functional layout suited to modern living. The client’s vision was to combine farmhouse comfort with subtle industrial influences, resulting in a design that feels both authentic and timeless.

To achieve this, our design team reimagined the flow of the space, introducing a multi-functional layout centred around a large farmhouse table and a feature island. This pairing not only creates balance and purpose but also encourages social connection — providing space for family gatherings, casual dining, and food preparation all within one beautifully cohesive environment.

The island doubles as a generous work surface and subtle divider between cooking and dining zones, while extensive storage ensures the kitchen remains calm, uncluttered, and ready for daily life.

A Chic Farmhouse Transformation

Every aspect of this Helford River kitchen design was thoughtfully considered to complement the building’s period features. The existing sash windows and exposed brickwork inspired the overall palette and material selection, while hand-finished cabinetry and industrial-style accents introduced a contemporary edge.

A standout design feature is the Euro-height oven cabinetry, tailored precisely to fit within the home’s original fireplace alcove. This clever architectural integration frames the hob beautifully, transforming what was once an unused space into a practical and visually striking focal point.

To bring warmth and balance, we introduced a harmonious palette of Scots Grey, Inkwell, and Glacier White. These shades create depth and contrast, enhancing the natural textures of brick and wood within the room.

The tactile appeal continues with a bespoke glass splashback by The Glassmith Wales, designed to reflect light and add subtle movement across the walls. Hand-cast Perrin & Rowe handles and a matching tap complete the scheme, bringing a touch of handcrafted British luxury to the space.

Every material and finish was chosen not only for its visual beauty but also for its durability — ensuring the kitchen feels timeless and resilient, designed to age gracefully within its heritage setting.

This kitchen design in Helford, Cornwall perfectly captures the balance between heritage charm and modern practicality. From the social layout to the carefully curated details, the finished space feels both effortless and deeply personal — a true reflection of our client’s lifestyle and the property’s unique rural setting.

At Now Kitchens, we take pride in delivering bespoke kitchen design across Cornwall, transforming properties of every character and period.
